true, but still, right? (whatever that means)

in the end it still boils down to nation politics. sure, the officials will say that less interest in KPOP artists, but at the same time, with the current situation between Korea and Japan in regards to the territorial dispute over the islands, and how it affect the interest in KPOP artists (like they say, when KPOP artists appear on these shows, they will less likely to tune in for that section), even though they are still allowed to promote singles/albums there via tv shows and such (though it still depends on the producing TV Stations, as seen on TV Asahi which produced M-Sta, and NHK which produced MUSIC JAPAN and the annual Kouhaku), consider year end shows where there's more people watching it compared to weekly programs, they rather not take the risk by inviting Korean artists for fear of getting complaints from viewers and subsequent backlash from the politicians. (for instance, how some viewers reacted to Koda Kumi's "inappropriate" donning of a Kimono when she appeared at one of the yearend shows to perform "Unmei")

it's only next year that we could see whether this unofficial banning on Korean artists to seep in the weekly programs.

Probably not,
A lot of people always like to talk about how hallyu acts are "people who steal money from japanese people" but truth of the matter is that most of the money kpop acts make in japan go directly to the japanese record company.  If the jpn record company desperately pushes for these artists, they will be pushed. end of story.
Quite a small part goes to the korean company itself...
The thing is that the korean music market is so dead that the korean record companies would settle for any profit.  (yes that small part is actually significant to companies like SM, or YG where most of the money they made is from japan to begin with)

Wada Akiko is Korean so it's not like they banned all koreans. Nonetheless its still a pretty big hit to kpop. I think there is more to it than the island issue since that has always been a bigger issue in Korea than Japan. I guess we will have to wait and see how things span out in 2013 to really see.

but wada akiko, born in korea, adopted a japanese name when she started her career in japan, and is a Japanese citizen since she married a Japanese. not to mention, she's been a regular at the year end shows, and you don't want to infuriate her as she has her own radio program and she's known for her no-nonsense personality when it comes to certain topic, so she doesn't count.

Tohoshinki are irrelevant since having their 2-man comeback. have you seen their digital sales?

Yep. She's a Zainichi Korean. She has no problem going on TV talking bad about people. She was just on the other day doing just thatsmiley: laugh I think if they excluded her then something really big must have been going on.

The only thing that's irrelevant is your opinion.

Wada Akiko wasn't born in Korea, she's a second generation Zainichi Korean. Her parents are immigrants from Korea, with her father being from Jeju (Cheju) Island (according to the Japanese Wikipedia). She's pretty much fully assimilated / acculturated into mainstream Japanese society and it was only relatively recently that her Korean ancestry was made public. She never mentioned it, nor was it widely known. People view her as a Japanese artist and so she wouldn't be lumped into the same category as other Korean artists. Therefore, she wouldn't be not be invited to big, year-end events like Kōhaku.

Who said she was born in Korea?
Kind of sounds like the people saying those TXVQ guys would be invited.
Her never having a career in Korea is the main difference.
But you missed the point completely though.
At the end of the day she's still korean.

She's made a great career in Japan and has a pretty high status. Unlike some of the kpop acts who can hardly speak/understad japanese and haven't achieved anything ground breaking in Japan.
I say some because I know some have actually tried and are interested in learning and starting from the ground up. Maybe BoA and TXVQ(probably why people were expecting them). I think them being not as popular plays a role in this and not solely the islands issue. Having a high selling single because it's tied to some event doesn't necessarily mean poularity. So Im going to stand to my point that there has to be more to it than what people are thinking (islands). People on here always say Japan is a land of trends and fads. MAybe the kpop fad is just over. If you haven't built up a fan base then you're going to be seeing the results real soon.

Also you might want to calm it down a bit. You seem hell bent on defending kpop. That just makes you easy baitsmiley: ohwell

I won't tolerate any racism or disparaging of peoples. If there's a hint of it I'll ban everyone that participated in the topic.
