Woah someone is releasing 4 BESTS at the same time? and interestingly enough they're all on the NINKI!
Ketsumeishi is a group that has never released a best album of any kind. They've had 6 no.1 albums (out of 7), one sold nearly 2 million copies in 2005. Their best-selling single sold a million in 2005 too.

Weekly sales so far...

Singles:

Kis-My-Ft2 - 120,369 + 62,494 + 19,256 = 202,119
UVERworld - 23,705 + 13,751 + 6,270 = 43,726
AKB48 - 9,968 + x + 4,990 + 4,863 = 19,821 + x
U-KISS - 17,207 + 2x

Albums:

BIGBANG - 14,504 + 4,538 + x = 19,042 + x
KARA - 6,247 + 5,531 + 4,931 + 4,690 = 21,399
Kamiya Hiroshi - 6,582 + 4,287 + x = 10,869 + x
Kubota Toshinobu - 3,735 + 2x + 3,485 = 7,220 + 2x

LOL @ KARA's 4th week about to get #1 weekly and beat Big Bang's first week. They're showing some crazy longevity, top 3 for 4 weeks in a row.

And looking at the album chart, Kara for another possible number one?
Many thanks for the information
So sad to see Himeka already out of the top 300....

It's pretty amazing to see that Japan's peak was short but sweet. They rose up REALLY quickly in the 90s and the dropped of just ten years later. The US market, for example, ALSO peaked in the 90s but was huge as well in the 80s and even 70s. The most amazing of all is the UK market... singles have NEVER sold better there and albums are also stronger compared to a few years ago. I mean, they have 60 million inhabitants or so, the US 300million, yet at times the UK top 10 almost looks better than that in the US.

And yes, the top 10 singles this year LOOKS good, but it's all in the hands of a very select number of artists and the market as a whole is still dying as much as before.
Japan's golden years musically is truly the end of the 80's until the early '00s, it's what we can call the 'songwriters boom', because songwriters whether they're solos or in bands totally dominate the industry and there were so many of them too! A friend of mine even mentioned that for Japan to get back on its feet musically, idols are never the answer, that the 'songwriters boom' needs to return and make another impact.

Though single-wise, I agreed with Osiris and Oricon, that UK & US incorporate digital sales that's why their sales can be so high.

Your friend is right. The song writers boom more or less lasted until 2005-6, although it was significantly weaker than it was in the late 90s and early 00s. From that point on the Asian music industry went downhill.

Haters gonna hate.

Either way I think this single is a much better indicator of how popular and how well Kisumai will sell. It doesn't have nearly as many versions as their debut single and their tie-in isn't as strong as it's just a CM for the title track.

Don't like Kisumai's new track either :/ Prefer their debut track more, apart from the rollerblades which make their performances... Eh... :/

Yes they had 10 versions with the debut single, but still with this single they have 5 versions out. I'm gonna wait until they only have 2 or 3 versions like most in Johnnys before deciding if they're really getting popular or still depending on their debut single for big numbers. Plus, at this moment the general public only think of Kisumai as a 3-member group, the 3:4 division is certainly not doing them any good. With this single, even reaching 250k in the first week is too big of a stretch.

Btw, GLAY actually have a mini-album released this week (Hope and Silver Sunrise), but unfortunately it's only exclusive to G-DIRECT and Oricon doesn't count the shop. I have a feeling that if the mini is sold in regular stores, GLAY would've taken no.1 album this week. What a pity.
