Who are Johnny's Juniors?
The Johnny's Juniors, or Juniors for short, are the members of the Johnny's Agency that have not debuted in a group. They all begin as back dancers but depending on circumstances can bridge out to do other things, such as singing, acting and appearing on TV shows. They can be the young Juniors that have just joined the agency or adults that have been with the agency for many years.
What's the difference between a Junior and a Kansai Junior?
There are two groups of Juniors, the Kanto (or Tokyo) Juniors who are located in Tokyo, who are typically just called Juniors, and then the Kansai Juniors who are located in Osaka. The Tokyo Juniors tend to be the most well known as because of their location they can participate in more of the show recordings that get national broadcast, which is why they are just called Juniors while Kansai Juniors (nicknamed Kanjuu) get a distinction.
Where can I see them?
Usually back dancing for the younger debuted groups from the Johnny's Agency. They do have their own TV program, The Shounen Club, which airs the first two Mondays of each month. Also some Juniors are active in being on TV programs, acting in dramas and movies and being in stage plays/musicals. The best way to find out what the various members of the Juniors are doing is to go over to Johnny's net and find the Juniors section. Under media it will list everything any Junior is active in and will list which Junior it is. You can also check out the TakiCHANnel web program that features the Juniors.
Semi-current list of groups and prominent Juniors.
Notes: Nakayama is probably the most popular Junior from the amount of promotion he has had and from starring in two dramas (Battery and Koishite Akuma). He can usually be seen at Hey! Say! JUMP and Junior concerts as well as in musicals.
Even though he is a member of NYC with Hey! Say! JUMP members Yamada Ryosuke and Chinen Yuri he is still listed as a Junior on all the official websites.
Notes: The younger brother of Hey! Say! JUMP's Morimoto Ryutaro, Shintaro in the past couple of years has been featured prominently in Junior concerts and programs as well as in musicals. He has had several drama roles and in 2009 starred in the film, Snow Prince.
- Fujii Ryusei
- Kamiyama Tomohiro
- Shigeoka Daiki
- Kotaki Nozomi
Notes: This group has gone through several name changes and a bit of a member change as well. They started off as Hey! Say! 7 West but are currently just called 7 West now. Nakayama Yuma was a member of this group and while he still performs with them as a group from time to time his name is always placed in front of their group name when he does.
This is one of the Kansai Junior groups so they mostly work out of Osaka where they perform at concerts with other Kansai Juniors and have even worked in dramas.
- Nakama Junta
- Kiriyama Akito
Notes: Currently a duo though there have been past roster changes as it tends to fluctuate being them being separate or a a part of another Kansai Junior group, BOYS as B.A.D. BOYS.
Both members were in the third and final season of the Gokusen drama series as well as the film for the series.
